About:
Shri Vishnumoorthy Temple is a famous thousand year old temple dedicated to goddess Vishnu, located in Aroor, which is near to Belmar and Kunjal. Previously the area comprised with dense forests and wildlife, the place was inhabited by very few families. Based on stories passed down from generations, it is also believed that some prominent Jain families also resided in this area. Maharishi Gaalavamuni, an extraordinary sage, believed to possess the ultimate power to put a curse on any individual and the original founder of Sri Mahishamardini Devi Temple Located at Neelavar village in Udupi District, is also believed to have laid the foundation to this ancient temple.
The responsibility of running the administration and day to day puja services offered to Lord Maha Vishnu relies on Brahmin family having Bhagavata culture from Simantooru village in Udupi. To honor Sage Madhvacharya, people in the region celebrate ” Madhva Navami” on the auspicious holy day of Shri Madhvacharya proving that the great sage sought blessings from this ancient Vishnu temple.
Festival:
The annual festival held at this temple for four days on Akshaya Tritiya maybe it comes on April end or may. It’s total 4 days festival. 1st day morning hosting the kodi on Kodi tree( Kodi mara). 2nd-day maha ranga pooja. 3rd day afternoon temple deity is kept on a Chariot(Ratha) and the car is pulled by the devotee to two steps.
Then maha anna santarpana & evening 07:00 pm again the temple deity is kept on a Chariot) and the car is pulled by devote to Aroor Primary School with amidst beating drums, fireworks and chanting of Vedic hymns and then a Chariot take back to the temple. The drawing of the car is preceded by a ceremony called Utsava Bali. 4th day Door Opening ceremony morning take the kodi down from the kodi tree(kodi mara) and afternoon prasad palara given to the devotees.
