📡 The Iconic Radio Tower
Bhujanga Park’s defining feature is its radio tower, which stands tall on a rock in the middle of the park. The tower is not just an architectural landmark, but a symbol of the park’s rich history. The park earned its nickname, Radio Park, because it once had a loudspeaker attached to a radio. In the past, the people visiting the park could listen to the All India Radio (AIR) broadcasts every evening, including the iconic 6 p.m. news, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Though radio listening was phased out in recent years, the tower and its history remain an important part of the park’s identity.

🔧 The Renovation and Revival of Radio Park
On 2 October 2020, a major renovation was carried out by K. Raghupathi Bhat, the MLA of Udupi. The renovation breathed new life into the park and its beloved radio tower. The most exciting change? The radio tower was reactivated, and now, park-goers can once again tune into AIR broadcasts from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every evening.
This revival has rekindled the nostalgia of listening to the radio in the park, allowing visitors to enjoy news, music, and programs under the open sky. The newly installed PA system and radio set ensure that the sound resonates within the park, while the volume is carefully adjusted to avoid disturbing the surrounding residential areas.
But the enhancements don’t stop there. The park’s renovation also introduced a special alarm system, ringing three times a day at 8:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. The final chime at 8 p.m. serves as a friendly reminder for visitors to begin wrapping up their visit.
